A Muslim should occupy their time by reading the Qur’an and contemplating its meanings. They should complete its recitation (khatm) according to their ability, while observing Tajweed and contemplating its meanings. The practices of the early Muslims (Salaf) varied in completing the Qur’an, depending on their circumstances and duties. Some would complete it in a month, some in ten days, some in seven, and many in three days. The preferred approach is to recite it frequently, maintaining consistency and perseverance, provided this does not conflict with one’s public or private duties.

Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to complete the Qur’an in three days, and in Ramadan, from one Friday to the next. Uthman, Ibn Mas’ud, and Tamim al-Dari all used to complete it in seven days.
