How can boredom be overcome in acts of worship and permissible forms of entertainment?

It was narrated from Wahb ibn Munabbih in the wisdom of the household of David (peace be upon him) that the intelligent person does not neglect four hours: an hour for supplicating to his Lord, an hour for self-reckoning, an hour with his brothers who inform him of his flaws, and an hour for lawful pleasure; because it aids in the other hours. And that one should not travel except for provisions for the afterlife, or for maintaining livelihood, or for a permissible pleasure.

Wisdom and intellect necessitate that recreation for the soul be far from what Allah has forbidden, and that one enjoys what Allah has made lawful without transgressing His limits. Allah the Almighty said: {O Children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess. Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good things, from [His] provision?" Say, "They are for those who have believed in worldly life and [will be] exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection." Thus do We explain the verses in detail for a people who know} [Al-A'raf: 31-32].

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified the required moderation by saying: "O Hanzalah, an hour and an hour"; meaning the combination of religious and worldly interests and giving everyone their due right. There is no contradiction between worship and permissible recreation; rather, one should seek reward in recreating for the soul.
