What are the characteristics of a righteous wife and a righteous husband?

The qualities sought in a husband are character and religious commitment, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "If someone whose religious commitment and character you approve comes to you, then marry him. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption." As for the qualities sought in a wife, the Prophet (peace be upon him) clarified them by saying: "A woman is married for four reasons: for her wealth, for her lineage, for her beauty, and for her religious commitment. So, choose the one with religious commitment, and you will prosper."
