Is it obligatory to cut ties with relatives who harm, insult, and revile the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions?

A Muslim should avoid peaceful interaction with those who insult mothers, except out of necessity, while showing his disapproval of such acts and striving to call them [to righteousness]. As for slandering the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), his companions, and his wives, this is apostasy from the religion and a grave evil. It must be denounced strongly, its consequences explained, and efforts made to convince the perpetrator by all available means. If they do not respond, then they can be boycotted and abandoned as a demonstration of zeal for the religion, or at the very least, a declaration of disapproval and leaving the gathering. Evidence has indicated the obligation to abandon the people of innovation and immorality.
