Is not speaking to the maternal uncle, after he threatened to expel [the mother] from the house, and due to a disagreement that occurred because of his harsh treatment of the mother, considered severing ties of kinship? And what should be done about it?

The Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, forbade turning away from each other (tadābur) and severance of ties (qaṭīʿah) among Muslims, and [enjoined]: “Be, O servants of Allah, brethren.” It is not permissible for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three [days]. Therefore, it is not permissible for you to sever ties with your maternal uncle. You must maintain ties with him in a good manner, because maintaining kinship ties (ṣilat ar-raḥim) is obligatory, and severing them is forbidden; in fact, it is among the grave sins. His ill-treatment does not permit severing ties with him, nor does it negate the fundamental obligation of maintaining ties with him.
