Does one who cuts ties with an abusive maternal uncle who refused reconciliation and repeatedly insulted him fall under the ruling of one who severs kin ties?
Maintaining ties with one's maternal uncle is obligatory; it is not permissible to sever them, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No severer of ties will enter Paradise." Severing kinship ties means abandoning connection, kindness, and good treatment towards relatives. The deeds of the children of Adam are presented to Allah on Friday night, and the deeds of one who severs kinship ties are not accepted. As Allah the Almighty said: (So would you, perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship? Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed, so He made them deaf and blinded their vision). Maintaining kinship ties has degrees; the lowest of which is refraining from abandoning and greeting them. Whoever does what they are capable of has fulfilled the obligation, and whoever does more has done well.
