Is the questioner considered to have severed ties of kinship, abandoned, or sinned for not speaking to or greeting his maternal uncle, from whom he distanced himself after ordering him to pray and forbidding him from evil deeds?

The Prophet forbade turning away from each other and severing ties among Muslims in general, and among kin specifically, because upholding kinship ties is obligatory, and severing them is forbidden and considered among the grave sins. Therefore, boycotting the maternal uncle is not permissible. His initiating the estrangement or his being negligent in his duties does not justify severing ties, for the one who maintains ties is not he who reciprocates connection, but rather he who connects with those who cut him off. It is obligatory to maintain ties with the maternal uncle and treat him with kindness, enjoining him to good and forbidding him from evil gently, wisely, and patiently.
