Is wearing the 'imamah (turban) Sunnah?

Wearing a turban is among the customs and permissible acts, not a Sunnah that warrants emulating the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The principle is that a person should wear what their people wear, unless it is forbidden, and they should not deviate from them with distinctive clothing, due to the Prophet's prohibition of clothing worn for fame. The Permanent Committee for Issuing Fatwas and Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen have affirmed that the turban is not a Sunnah but rather a custom, and a Muslim must wear what people in their country customarily wear, as long as it is not forbidden.
