What is the ruling on pictures found in books, of their beneficial and religious types?

Images found in religious books fall into two categories: The first is drawings of animate beings, and these are subject to severe warnings, such as the hadith: "Whoever makes a picture, Allah will torment him until he breathes a soul into it, and he will never be able to breathe a soul into it," and the hadith: "Every painter will be in the Hellfire, for every picture he paints, a soul will be made for it, and it will torment him in Gehenna." The second category consists of photographic images of animate beings, and the ruling on these has been detailed in fatwa number: 35203.
