What is the way to deal with a wife who refuses to complete sexual intercourse, despite consulting a doctor who confirmed that the reason is psychological, and how can she be encouraged to participate in the relationship?
It is forbidden for a wife to refuse her husband's bed unless there is a legitimate Sharia excuse. Otherwise, she is sinful and disobedient, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If a man calls his wife to his bed and she refuses to come, and he spends the night angry with her, the angels curse her until morning." The husband has the right to enjoy his wife whenever he wishes and in any position, as long as it does not distract her from her obligatory duties or harm her. She is not allowed to refuse merely because she does not desire it. However, if she is in pain and intercourse would harm her, then there is no sin upon her. If the refusal is due to psychological reasons and apprehension, then she should be treated gently, helped to overcome this apprehension, and assistance sought from specialists. Suitable times should be chosen for dialogue with her, and prayers offered for her well-being.
