Does the wife have the right to object to her husband's commands if she sees a benefit in not implementing them? Is discussing matters with the husband considered stubbornness? Does the husband overstep his bounds by describing his wife as not understanding?

A wife has the right to discuss life matters with her husband with familiarity, affection, and a good demeanor, and this is not considered an act of defiance (nushooz). If the husband orders her to commit a sin or something that harms her, then obedience is not obligatory. A wife's obedience to her husband is in matters of marriage and related affairs, not absolute obedience. A husband's description of his wife as lacking understanding is not permissible and contradicts the righteous companionship (al-mu'ashara bil-ma'roof) that Allah has commanded.
