Is a wife entitled to disobey her husband unless she is convinced of his commands, claiming that lack of conviction infringes upon her dignity? And does a husband's consultation with his wife on a matter obligate him to adopt her opinion?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
If a husband commands his wife to do something that is his right Islamically, and it does not involve disobedience to Islamic law or harm, then she must obey him. As for matters that fall outside the bounds of obligatory obedience, she is not required to obey him in them. It is not permissible for a wife to leave her husband's house without his permission, except in cases of necessity. If the husband consults her, he is not obliged to act on her opinion. The fundamental principle in the relationship between spouses is affection, mercy, and mutual understanding.
