Is an expiatory offering (kaffarah) for breaking an oath obligatory upon someone who swore not to discuss the result of a sports match with his colleagues, but then did so? And is giving charity to the needy in the streets sufficient instead of officially feeding the needy?

If you swore not to discuss matters related to a match, and then you discussed them, you are liable for an expiation for breaking an oath (kaffarat yameen). It is permissible to pay the expiation in the form of food, by feeding ten needy persons, whether they are street beggars or others. It is stipulated that you give each needy person a sufficient amount of food (approximately one and a half kilograms), or feed them two satisfying meals for lunch and dinner.
