Fornication is one of the gravest sins. Its expiation is sincere repentance, by feeling remorse, seeking forgiveness, and resolving not to return to it. The prescribed punishment for the fornicator in this world is a purification for him, and whoever falls into it should conceal himself with Allah's concealment. It is not permissible for a man to marry a woman with whom he committed fornication unless both she and he have repented.
