As for the husband swearing by triple divorce to prevent his wife from contacting her family, scholars have differed. Some are of the opinion that the divorce occurs upon her contacting them, and this is the view of the majority. Others have differentiated, stating that if he intended divorce, it occurs; but if he intended encouragement or prevention, then he must pay an expiation for an oath. The view of the majority is stronger, and to avoid severing ties, the condition remains suspended. The wife can contact her family through other means, such as messages or visits, or her family can contact her.
