Is working as a bank teller in a usurious loan company that charges 25% interest, with a fixed salary and no percentage from the loans, unlawful (haram)?
The aforementioned loan is an unlawful, usurious loan. It is not permissible to work on disbursing it to borrowers, even if you do not charge a commission. The salary earned from this work is illicit money because it is in exchange for a forbidden service. Allah Almighty said: "And do not cooperate in sin and aggression." Muslim narrated from Jabir -may Allah be pleased with him- that the Messenger of Allah -peace and blessings be upon him- said: "Allah has cursed the one who consumes Riba (usury), its payer, its two witnesses, and its scribe; they are all equal in sin." The curse did not only specify the one who consumes Riba, but also included its payer and whoever assists them in that.
