Is it permissible for a wife to ask her husband for intercourse, knowing that he only desires it every 4 or 5 days, while she desires it more often and fears falling into sin?
The sayings of the jurists vary regarding the determination of the period in which a husband must engage in sexual intercourse with his wife. Some are of the view that he is obligated to have intercourse once every four months, and this is the of the Hanbalis. Others are of the view that he is obligated to have intercourse according to her needs, as long as it does not exhaust his body or distract him from his livelihood. This is what Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Uthaymeen chose, and it is the sounder of the two opinions.
We advise the husband to treat his wife kindly and fulfill her desire for intercourse in a way that does not harm his body or distract him from other obligations, especially in light of the abundance of temptations. We remind the wife of the importance of taking care of herself and her adornment for her husband, and that they should treat each other kindly.
