The basic principle concerning foodstuffs is permissibility, unless it is known that they contain something forbidden, in which case their consumption becomes prohibited. If there is doubt about something, piety dictates abstaining from it. If it is known that the ingredients are forbidden (such as unslaughtered animals or alcoholic sources), then it is forbidden to buy and consume them, unless these substances undergo a complete transformation before being added to the product. In such a case, many scholars consider them permissible, as their name and description have changed.
