How can a student balance fasting and diligent study during the month of Sha'ban, taking into consideration the approaching exams and the intention to fast most of the month?

If fasting in Sha'ban conflicts with studying for exams, which might lead to failure or low grades if neglected, then fasting in Sha'ban is supererogatory (mustahabb) and not obligatory. It can be forgone due to this excuse, and it is hoped that the reward for fasting will be attained by intending to fast were it not for the excuse.
