Is it permissible to temporarily distance oneself from one's father, at his request, after numerous failed attempts to honor him, and after he has invoked curses upon the enquirer?
You must go to great lengths in honoring your father and treating him kindly. What was mentioned about his shortcomings towards you when you were young does not diminish his right over you in any way. You must adhere to patience and supplicate for him, and employ legitimate means to remove his hatred for you, such as involving family, spending money, and fulfilling his desires. If this does not work, then there is no harm in staying away from him for a period, while not abandoning efforts to gain his satisfaction. As for his curses against you, do not fear them as long as you have not fallen short in your duties towards him, because Allah does not answer the prayer of an aggressor.
