Is displaying bodies in the sport of bodybuilding permissible or forbidden (halal or haram)?

Bodybuilding demonstrations often involve the exposure of the 'awrah (private parts) between the navel and the knee, which is unlawful for either a man or a woman to look at, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "A man should not look at the 'awrah of another man, nor should a woman look at the 'awrah of another woman."

Therefore, it is impermissible to view pictures or video clips that include the exposure of 'awrah.

However, if the demonstration is free from the exposure of 'awrah, then there is no harm in it. Nevertheless, one must be cautious lest this sport becomes an end in itself, rather than a means to build a strong body that aids in the obedience of Allah. This is because athletes might become solely preoccupied with enlarging their bodies, leading to the neglect of higher goals and true human values, which lie in piety and righteous deeds. As Allah says: "And when you see them, their physiques please you," and as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah does not look at your forms or your wealth, but rather He looks at your hearts and your deeds."
