The answer

It is a condition for one who has purchased an item that they take possession of it before selling it, and there is no difference between food and other goods, due to the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "If you buy an item, do not sell it until you take possession of it." Selling before taking possession is prohibited because it is profit from what has not been guaranteed, due to his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "It is not permissible to profit from what has not been guaranteed." Possession differs according to the item. For items that are transportable, possession is achieved by transporting them, even if it is by removing them from the warehouse. This is the view of the Shafi'is and the Zahiris. The correct way to sell an item is by moving it from the warehouses to another location, then selling it, or by requesting its delivery to the new buyer with the guarantee of the first seller until its arrival.
