Is it permissible to force the wife to visit the husband's mother, who does not visit him, knowing that there is animosity between them due to the husband's independence from his parents?
A husband is not obliged to compel his wife to visit his mother or his family, nor is the wife sinful for not visiting them. However, since the husband’s mother is the wife’s maternal aunt, it is obligatory for her to maintain ties with her aunt, and severing ties with her is forbidden. If custom considers refraining from visiting as severing ties, then the wife must visit her aunt appropriately. The husband should command her to do so, explaining to her the obligation of upholding kinship ties and its virtue, and the status of the maternal aunt, who is like a mother. He should strive to reconcile between his wife and his parents with wisdom.
