Lying is forbidden except out of necessity or a need that is considered equivalent to it. Lying to parents can be avoided by using tawriyah (ambiguity) and ma'arid (allusions) to avert their anger or embarrassment. For example, one might say: "My phone is not with me now." Tawriyah provides an escape from lying.
