Does a worshiper still maintain the status of being in prayer when he stops for a long time on his way back from the mosque before reaching home, knowing that going to and returning from the mosque is considered prayer?

"Frequent steps to the mosque are a great act of worship, for which the worshipper is rewarded for his going and his returning. This is indicated by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "Shall I not tell you of what Allah erases sins with and raises degrees with? ... Frequent steps to the mosques." And his saying to Ubayy ibn Ka'b: "Allah has gathered all of that for you," meaning the reward for going and returning. This is what Al-Nawawi and others maintained: that the reward is established for returning just as it is established for going, and the hadith did not differentiate between one who stopped during his walk and one who did not."
