What are the borders of the Land of Hijaz? And is Makkah part of it?

Malik, Al-Shafi'i, and others mandate the expulsion of disbelievers from the جزيرة العرب (Arabian Peninsula). However, Al-Shafi'i restricted this ruling to the Hejaz (Mecca, Medina, Yamama, and their environs). The jurists differed on whether Mecca is considered part of the Hejaz or Tihamah. It was reported from Al-Asma'i that the Hejaz encompasses several regions from Medina up to the borders of Syria, and it was named Al-Hejaz because it separates Tihamah and Najd. Thus, Mecca is Tihami, while Medina and Ta'if are Hejazi. Another definition for Al-Hejaz was reported, extending from the Ma'din al-Nuqrah to Medina.
