How is the restitution of injustices related to one's honor to be made?

Restoring what was wrongfully taken is a condition for the validity of repentance if the sin is between a person and other people. This requires returning rights to their owners or seeking forgiveness. These rights include transgressions against lives through killing, or against property through theft and usurpation, or against honor through slandering, cursing, and backbiting. Thus, the repentance of a killer is not complete unless the victim's guardians are enabled to exact retribution or grant pardon, and the repentance of one who took money is not complete unless it is returned or its owner grants permission. As for the repentance of one who violated another's honor, if they fear causing greater discord by informing them, they should not inform them. Rather, they should pray for them, seek forgiveness for them, highlight their good qualities, and turn to Allah to make them pleased with him.
