What is the ruling on a wife who disobeys her husband and dislikes his family?
Spouses must live together in kindness and fulfill their obligations. The husband's right over his wife is great, including obedience in what is good. If the wife disobeys, the husband should follow the means of reform mentioned in the Quran: "Admonish them, and abandon them in their beds, and strike them." If the disobedience persists and the relationship deteriorates, then arbitration by a judge from his family and a judge from her family must be sought. Part of a wife's good character is treating her husband's family well, overlooking their mistakes, and helping him be dutiful to his parents and maintain kinship ties. This increases the husband's love and respect for her and adds weight to her good deeds. The husband should clarify this to his wife and strive to mend the relationship between her and his family.
