What is the interpretation of seeing disturbing and vivid dreams and nightmares featuring known individuals that cause distress, especially when repenting and returning to God? Are they from Satan or from the self?

When repenting to Allah, nightmares and disturbing dreams may be from Satan, who tries to discourage penitents and frighten them by portraying a return to Allah as harmful to them. Satan is the enemy of man and seeks to mislead him, as Allah Almighty said: "He said, 'Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful.'" Repentance is obligatory and has many virtues. One must be diligent in reciting adhkar, especially before sleep, sleep in a state of purity, and recite ruqyah on oneself with lawful incantations.
