Is the distressing dream I had, whose interpretation contradicts what I wish for and pray for, considered to be from Satan so that I might despair of God and lose my trust in Him? And is it permissible for me to continue to supplicate and trust in God, ignoring this dream and its distressing interpretation?

A terrifying dream is caused by Satan to sadden the believer. The servant should put his trust in Allah, seek refuge in Him from evil, supplicate, conceal the dream, not speak of it, spit three times, and pray. It has been reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that a good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream (nightmare) is from Satan. So, whoever sees what he loves, let him speak of it to those he loves. And whoever sees what he dislikes, let him seek refuge in Allah from its evil and from the evil of Satan, and let him spit three times, and not speak of it to anyone, for it will not harm him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified that dreams are of three types: self-talk, fright from Satan, and glad tidings from Allah. A bad dream is from Satan to sadden and disturb a person, and its effect is removed by doing what has been commanded.
