Is it permissible to abandon studying and devote oneself to religion, lectures, and Tabligh groups due to poor comprehension in academic study?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not advisable to abandon studies to devote oneself to lectures and worship, for there is no contradiction between religion and education. Religion calls for knowledge and urges it, as substantiated by His (Allah's) saying: "Say, 'Are those who know equal to those who do not know?'" and His saying: "And say, 'My Lord, increase me in knowledge,'" and His saying: "Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also said: "Indeed, the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge, being pleased with what he seeks." These texts include beneficial religious and worldly sciences. Poor comprehension does not necessitate abandoning knowledge; rather, it requires striving and perseverance, along with supplication and frequent seeking of forgiveness.
