Should one drop a lawsuit filed against a brother who has seized most of the partnership's funds, in order to appease a father who sees it as an act of goodness, or should one continue litigation to reclaim what is rightfully due?

Obeying one's father is obligatory for children in what is good, and it is a form of righteousness (birr). It is better for the son to obey his father in dropping the case, to preserve kinship ties, hoping for the reward of obeying parents, and to attain the reward of repelling evil with good. This concession is out of righteousness and benevolence, not out of obligation, because a child is not obliged to obey his parent in what causes him harm, and a parent is not permitted to compel his son to do so, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "There should be no harm or reciprocating of harm."
