Is a man who engaged in foreplay with his wife during the daytime in Ramadan, resulting in ejaculation, obligated to offer expiation (kaffarah) or merely make up that day (qada')?

The emission of semen due to foreplay with one's wife or direct physical contact invalidates the fast and necessitates only making up the day (qada'), according to the preponderant opinion, along with seeking forgiveness and repenting. The Malikis, however, are of the view that both making up the day and expiation (kaffara) are obligatory.
