One should stay away from intrusive thoughts (waswas). If there is a doubt about being afflicted by magic or the evil eye, the legitimate cure is the ruqyah (exorcism/incantation) based on the Quran, the Sunnah, and authentic supplications. One can perform ruqyah on oneself or go to a righteous raqi (one who performs ruqyah). Zamzam water is blessed and has been tested in healing illnesses and magic, by Allah's permission, for "Zamzam water is for what it is drunk for." For a valid ruqyah, it is a condition that neither the raqi nor the one being ruqyah'ed believes that the ruqyah benefits by itself, that it does not contain any Sharia violation, and that it is understandable. Ruqyah can be performed by spitting (lightly) or by reciting on water and oil. It is not permissible to follow anyone who claims blessings or practices charlatanism. The criterion for choosing a raqi is their adherence to the Sunnah and their distance from innovation (bid'ah).
