Insulting and harming a Muslim are considered acts of transgression (fisq) and disbelief (kufr). It has been reported that a believer is not one who slanders, curses, or is obscene or vulgar. Whoever is subjected to insults has three options: Forgiveness and overlooking; thereby attaining the reward of the righteous (muttaqin), honor, and forgiveness, which is the best option. Or not forgiving and leaving the sinner to his Lord. Or retribution: responding to a bad deed with its like, without transgression. The texts have emphasized that forgiveness is the best option due to the reward and recompense it entails.
