Is it permissible for a Muslim to regularly combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers by praying Dhuhr at the end of its time and then praying Asr at the beginning of its time, with the time between the two prayers being short, and is it permissible to do this daily?

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, taught us the prayer times and their beginning and end. If a Muslim prays within the specified time, then he has fulfilled his obligation. Scholars refer to delaying the Dhuhr prayer until the end of its time, praying Asr at the beginning of its time, delaying the Maghrib prayer until the end of its time, and praying Isha at the beginning of its time, as "formal combining" (al-jam' al-suri). This action is permissible between Dhuhr and Asr, and between Maghrib and Isha, as each prayer falls within its specified time. It is not permissible between Fajr and Dhuhr, or Asr and Maghrib, to avoid delaying Asr until the time of yellowishness (when the sun loses its brightness), which is forbidden, and to avoid delaying Isha until close to Fajr, as some scholars believe its time ends at midnight. Although this action is permissible, it is not the most preferable. The most preferable is to hasten to pray at the beginning of its time, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: ﴿So race to [all that is] good﴾ [Quran 2:148] and the Prophet's saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "Prayer at its [appointed] time." This delay is permissible for those for whom congregational prayer is not obligatory. As for those for whom it is obligatory, it is not permissible for them to abandon the congregation except for a legitimate excuse.
