Is hanging a software-specific CD by a non-gold chain around the neck, out of necessity for work, considered imitating women, and what is the ruling of Sharia on that?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade men from imitating women. The criterion for imitation is doing what is typically exclusive to women. This includes wearing necklaces, even if they are not made of gold or silver.
