Each spouse has rights and duties to ensure a good marital relationship. The husband's right over his wife is great, and her good treatment of him is one of the greatest acts of devotion to Allah. A wife's objection to her husband's purchases is not ill-treatment as long as it is done in a polite and acceptable manner. What is given as a gift should not be belittled, and it is part of good companionship to thank the husband for his gift, no matter how simple it may be. A husband's abandonment of his wife without an acceptable reason is not permissible.
