What is the ruling on someone who conceals the flaws of an addicted fiancé from the fiancée, fearing her husband's threat of divorce, and is she thereby considered a false witness, even though she cannot inform anyone lest her husband suspect her?

If a woman is not asked about a suitor and is not consulted about him, she is not obligated to mention his flaws. However, it is recommended for her to do so, and this is not considered backbiting (ghībah), because it serves a prevalent interest. But if she is asked, she must disclose his flaws as a form of advice, and concealing them is deception. In doing so, she will be rewarded and will not be bearing false witness. It is appropriate to limit oneself to what achieves the intended benefit without elaboration, such as saying: "She is not suitable for you."
