Is the statement of the majority of jurists that transformation (istihalah) makes a forbidden thing lawful exclusive to what is done by human action? And does transformation in ointments and creams occur by human action or automatically? And what is the view of the majority of scholars on this?

The majority of scholars do not consider an impure substance purified by transformation (istihalah) except for wine if it turns into vinegar on its own. However, if one intentionally causes it to turn into vinegar, it is not purified according to the majority. Sheikh Al-Islam, on the other hand, holds the view that substances other than wine can be purified by transformation. The Hanafis believe that impurity is purified by transformation, and they differ from the majority regarding the purification of wine if it is intentionally transformed. Determining whether a substance has undergone transformation or not, and whether it transformed on its own or through human action, is referred to experts and specialists.
