What is the ruling on shaving the beard if the family insists on it for fear of fitna (strife/temptation) and to avoid harassment?

Shaving the beard is forbidden (haram) and letting it grow is obligatory (wajib). Obedience to the Creator takes precedence over obedience to the created. Your parents' anger regarding the beard is due to emotion and fear. However, troubles often arise from engaging in discord, not from letting the beard grow. You must remain steadfast in the truth and continue to let your beard grow in obedience to Allah, avoid discord, and rely on Allah, while still being dutiful to your parents and apologizing to them gently. Allah Almighty says: "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect" and "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him ease in his matter."
