What is the ruling on financial transactions, such as commissions, gifts, and tips, that occur between hotel staff, tourism companies, and clients, in exchange for providing hotel rooms during crowded seasons, or for transferring bookings to specific tourism companies even when direct booking is possible?

An employee must uphold trustworthiness and perform their work to the fullest, which is part of the required sincerity. Sincerity in work means performing it as agreed upon in the contract or job description, and it is part of the trust (amanah) that Allah has commanded us to fulfill, saying: "Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due."

Regarding the two cases:

1. First Case: If the hotel has vacant rooms and you direct a customer to a tourism company to receive a commission, this is forbidden because it harms the hotel owner and constitutes a breach of trust. Your salary is in exchange for working in the hotel's interest, not your personal interest. 2. Second Case: If all hotel rooms are reserved for the company and you act as an intermediary between the company and the customer, there is no harm in that. This is permissible brokerage and does not affect your work at the hotel because the hotel is not harmed due to the absence of vacant rooms. In this case, it is permissible to accept a commission or a gift from the company, the customer, or both.
