Is a Muslim considered to be severing ties of kinship if he communicates with them through indirect means, such as sending greetings via others without specifying names, or merely by supplicating for them?

Kinship ties are not fulfilled if one is ignorant of the person with whom the tie is to be maintained. A Muslim is considered to have severed ties of kinship, even if they send greetings, as long as they are able to visit or make a phone call. Praying alone is not sufficient to maintain kinship ties, even though it is a form of connection.
