Is it permissible for my father to build a cemetery according to the Egyptian system—underground chambers with several compartments—and to renovate the old family cemetery, and to purchase a new plot of land to build a cemetery upon it, knowing that this type of cemetery has ceased to exist in Egypt?

There is no objection to the father purchasing land and making it a cemetery. The cemetery must conform to Islamic law, with each deceased person buried in their own grave within the earth. It is not permissible to bury above ground or to bury more than one deceased person in a single grave, except in cases of necessity. There is no objection to renovating permissible graves out of necessity.
