Why was only one guardian mentioned in His saying, the Almighty: (There is no soul but that it has a guardian over it), even though it is known that there are two angels for writing and two for guarding?

The interpretation of the noble verse: (There is no soul but that it has over it a protector) [Al-Tariq/4], is divided into two main opinions:

1. The first opinion: That what is meant by (protector) is Allah Almighty, for He is the true Protector over people and their deeds, and He protects them from calamities and harm. This is based on other verses such as: (But Allah is the best guardian) and (Indeed, Allah is ever, over you, an Observer).

2. The second opinion: Which is the opinion of the majority of exegetes, is that what is meant by (protector) are angels. This opinion is divided into several aspects: Angels who record deeds: These are the ones who count the good and bad deeds of the Children of Adam. Guardian angels: These are assigned to protect the servant and ward off harm from them in their worldly life. Inclusion of both types: Some scholars believe that the verse encompasses both types of angels (recorders and guardians), and that the word (protector) came in the singular form to denote the gender and to fit the endings of the verses, which is a common style in the Arabic language.
