It is not permissible to buy, sell, or possess statues of animate beings, as they prevent angels from entering [a home], and it is not permissible to exchange them as gifts. An exception to this is children's toys, based on the of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, which indicates the permissibility of children playing with dolls.
