What is the meaning of "And I seek refuge in You from You" which is included in the Prophet's supplication during prostration: "O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and in Your forgiveness from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot enumerate Your praise; You are as You have praised Yourself"?

Muslim narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that one night she lost the Prophet (peace be upon him) and found him prostrating, saying: "O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and in Your forgiveness from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot enumerate Your praises; You are as You have praised Yourself."

Al-Manawi and Ibn Al-Qayyim said that the Prophet's (peace be upon him) statement: "I seek refuge in You from You" signifies complete monotheism (Tawhid), meaning that everything that befalls a servant, whether good or evil, comes from Allah alone. It is He who causes causes and wards off evil, so there is no refuge or escape from Him except to Him.
