What is the ruling on intermingling with followers of false doctrines at school and at home, while trying to avoid their suspicions and refute them without affirming their actions?

For safety in religion and steadfastness upon it, one must seek beneficial knowledge and avoid doubts and places of perdition. Associating with innovators is dangerous for a Muslim's religion; for hearts are weak and doubts are snatchers. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever hears of the Dajjal, let him keep away from him. For by Allah, a man will come to him thinking he is a believer, then he will follow him, due to the specious arguments he sends forth."

The Salaf warned against the gatherings of innovators. Therefore, one must be wary of associating with them. If it is unavoidable, such as in study or at home, one should not argue or debate with them regarding matters related to innovation. It is better to avoid debating and arguing with them unless one is firmly grounded in knowledge and strong in argument. It is advisable to occupy one's time with Islamic knowledge so that their specious arguments become clear.
