Is it obligatory for a man to live in his divorced wife's home during her waiting period (iddah), knowing that it is not his home but rather he pays its rent? Is he obligated to give her his time just like his other wives? Is the menstrual period that occurs two weeks after the divorce counted as the first period in the calculation of the waiting period?

A revocably divorced woman (during her first or second iddah) must observe her waiting period in the marital home. She is not permitted to leave except with her husband's permission, based on the Almighty's saying: "Do not expel them from their homes, nor should they leave, unless they commit a clear immorality." If the marital home is the wife's private residence for which the husband pays rent, then she must observe her iddah there, and the husband is obliged to pay the rent until the iddah concludes. The husband is not required to live with her or to apportion nights to her unless he wishes to, as the right of reconciliation belongs to him, and the iddah does not signify a complete marital relationship. As for the iddah, it is three complete menstrual cycles after the divorce.
