What is the way to return to religious commitment and obedience after a decline in performing acts of worship and becoming preoccupied with desires?
You must renew your repentance to Allah and re-examine your relationship with Him. Then, seek out the reasons for your relapse after commitment and address them. Move from an environment of disobedience to an environment of obedience and associate with the righteous. Beware of surrendering to the whims of the soul; rather, strive against them and compel the soul to contravene its desires and perform acts of obedience that it dislikes until it becomes accustomed to them. Continuously reflect on death and the horrors that follow it. Be diligent in performing the acts of worship that Allah has made obligatory upon you, especially prayer, and be conscious of Allah's constant observation of you.
